Salsa movie

Want to watch a good salsa movie, salsa documentary or musical video. Well, pop in a Netflix dvd or watch some online movies to get your salsa fix. Some of these dance and Latin films are great to watch and learn new dancing steps also they wonderful story lines will open your mind in the art of dancing.

We shouldn’t only know the dance movement but some of its history, background and what enflames it’s passion. Here are a few. Perhaps you have your own list of movies and television shows on salsa dancing. Let us know.

– STRICTLY BALLROOM – A great movie which not only has exciting dance scenes but a compelling story as well. It tells us the price we and our children may pay if we allow ourselves to live in fear.

– DANCE WITH ME – Vanessa Williams and Chayanne play two individuals who meet at crossroad of their lives. Chayanne arrives from Cuba to seek a father he never met and Vanessa must decide if the sacrifice for her career as a dancer is worth her true happiness. It’s a good movie and worth your choice.

– SHALL WE DANCE – Ricard Gere and Jennifer Lopez star in this entertaining film. Fireworks ignite when a married and bored lawyer takes a Latin dance class and is taken by his beautiful instructor. A funny and entertaining and a joy to watch with friends and family. An uplifting movie which will leave you smiling at the end.

– TAKE THE LEAD – Antonio Banderas is a passionate dance teacher decides to teach a group of kids in school detention the art of ballroom dancing. I have to say the movie is predictable and I’ve seen this version many times. From Sidney Poitier to Michelle Pfeiffer and for some reason even though I know how the movie may end, I still wind up watching the whole thing.

THE MASK OF ZORRO – Talking about Antonio Banderas here is a good movie he made. It’s not about salsa, obviously but it does have an exciting dance scene with him and Catherine Zeta-Jones. This movie delivers entertainment in many ways; add it to your netflix account. Besides, the exciting story you should definitely watch, if only to see how Zorro uses his passion and charm to sweep this beauty of her feet. Watch and learn salseros.

– SALSA – Take a blast into the 80’s and watch this dance flick. Auto mechanic by day and dancing machine at night.
Rico’s dream (yes, his name is Rico) of being the king of salsa is at hand but he must decide what leads him, his heart or his ambition. Put this movie in your cart, it has great salsa scenes which inspired many people to learn salsa in the 80’s. It will deliver.

– DIRTY DANCING – What more can I say, Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey are dynamic together.

– THE FORBIDDEN DANCE IS LAMBADA – Bad acting, bad directing and cheeseeeey! I like it.

– THE MAMBO KINGS – I remember when this movie came out, I don’t know why buy for some reason I thought it was going to be about great salseros who were rocking the dance floor in a modern New York. I liked this movie about two brothers who flee Cuba and find great success in Mambo world. It’s worth watching, even though it doesn’t have many dancing scenes it’s worth watching if not only to listen to the wonderful song, Beautiful Maria of My Soul.

– THE WEST SIDE STORY – Enough said.

– DIRTY DANCING HAVANA NIGHTS – Think of it as Patrick Swayze meets Fidel Castro.

Honorable mentions:

Coqueta – This is a great movie. Although you can rate this movie as a ten on the cheesiness factor, it delivers wonderfully. Two Mexican teens fall in love in this bitter sweet story. It’s for kids of all ages filled with memorable songs and scenes. I remember watching this movie when I was 15 with some friends and at the end of the movie their eyes were red and teary. Interesting, since they were all guys and the movie is in Spanish and none of them spoke the language. I yet haven’t met a girl was not brought to tears watching it. Buy the dvd.

There are other top salsa and dance movies, tell us which are some of your favorites and why you liked it.
