Dancing all night can make a person very hungry. You’re just craving to eat something good but when you’re a little financially tapped this week, a cheap place will due.
Years ago we would stop by gray papaya in NY for some hotdogs. They were good, we really couldn’t complain for the price. For some reason it was usually during the cold winter days when we would pull up after a club night.
It could be 3 in the morning but the place would be filled with all types of characters crowded in this little booth type place. I would always be freezing and not in the best mood to socialize and just looking forward to eat and leave.
I haven’t been there for a while, I’m sure they’re still serving good hot dogs.
One of the latest craze some frugal salseros are talking about in the NY area is the $1 pizza. I don’t know where this came about but they were talking of it lately.
A couple of months ago I was at the Copa and after we left we walked to a pizzeria on the corner. It was a packed house, I guess with many people leaving the Copa. I was hungry so I ordered one slice with pepperoni.
I only buy one slice if it’s a new pizzeria, I’ve never been too. If it’s good I’ll buy another one. They charged me around $4.80. Is this a high end place? It’s Manhattan and I’m expecting to pay more put I thought $5 for a slice was too much.
However, it was one good pizza, so I had to get another one.
After that night a rumor of a one dollar pizza started circulating. For a couple of weeks my friend tried to find it. I didn’t know what the big deal was but than some other friends started to talk about it too.
Well last week I was at iguanas and afterwards we were starving. We drove around and we found the one dollar pizza joint. I forgot where it was but it was a little outside joint.
All I could say are you got what you pay for.
However, it will do if you’re tapped and you got the munchies. So the frugal salsero has to find an affordable place to eat afterwards. Do your research; see what the internet says about a cheap place to eat. Sometimes the best info is from a friend. Ask where they have a decent and cheap place to eat or where the specials are.
You’d be surprised by the info you can get from them.
Salseros, stick together and share the info. Let’s try to help our brothers during these trying times. Do you know some frugal places to go and if you do, what is your experience. Inquiring minds want to know.
Maybe next week I’ll stop at gray papaya for an early snack. It usually hits the spot when you’re starving or when you need something to chow down to sober up before you get home.
